Like Mother Like Daughter

We came home from our ski weekend and Lynley had started on a do it yourself project of her own.

We had already visited Cutting Corners (our go to custom fabric store in Dallas)  and their half off sale on clearance fabric.  Really, the fabric she bought was on sale for $3.50 a yard.  

When we got home I saw these on the couch.

I looked out back and saw these sitting side by side.  Lynley forgot that I need a before pic.  She ran out of spray paint and that is the only way you get to see half of the old painted chair. 

Dad helped.  You can get a glimpse of the new fabric on the pillow in the background that I made for her. 

Tadaa!  Great job Lynley.

New modern look for some very old shield style chairs. This is their fourth life.  They started out in a church lobby, bought by someone in Coppell, sold by that person on Craig's list to me for 15 dollars each. I repainted and made new seat covers for Lynley's college apartment.  Now her version!  

I did find one little glimpse of the old chair in my kitchen photo's from my hubby said no to black shutters post.   It had a yellow and ivory buffalo print silk on the seat. I stenciled the fleur de lis and K.  Maybe they will be like a cat and have nine lives.  They are very sturdy chairs so there is a good chance.  Later after her move in, I 'll try to remember to show them in their new home. 

Sneak peek of the trim for Raylyn's bumper pads.  Talk about time consuming, each petal had to be pinned before I could sew the seam.  That thin netting is what I had to catch with my machine stitch.  Raylyn your Lala loves you very much!  But, the end result was so worth it!

Hippity Hoppity Easter's on it's way.

St. Patrick's Day too.  Napkins I'm using and an extra random tip. Yes, you know that is water vodka tonic in that glass.  Hey, it was Saturday night at home, whoo hoo.

I saw the below on somewhere? Blog or Pinterest? I can't remember where but, I have to share too.

I am going on day six of my home manicure in the pic below.  Day six! Dishes, heavy duty house cleaning, daily work, bubble bath,  you know the routine.  I used Ulta polish and the secret is the Sally Hansen Super Shine.  About every other day I re-coat with both if I detect a small chip or with just  the Super Shine.  I never kept polish on my fingernails because on day two or three they were so chipped.  This pose is my comment only, no one has asked me to advertise.  So you know this stuff works and I just had to share.  Well worth the 5.99 price.  

So sorry Happy Nail salon, you just get to see me for pedicures! Yes, just one nail, I don't think there is an s on their sign after nail.  

Grand number three needs baby bedding

Raylyn will need little princess bedding.  Melissa and Sean went with me to Cutting Corners and picked out the grey and white fabrics to use.  

Below are the three different grey fabric choices. One has the beautiful design, one has a raw silk look and the other is a sheer striped fabric.  You will see the grey and white fabric once I move onto the bumper pads.  

I'll start with the dust ruffle.  Melissa wanted box pleats. The stripe fabric will end up in the background.  I measured and sewed the panels together.

I pinned the box pleats and then stitch witched them down with my iron.

This photo is with the flash and shows the true colors. 

Next I will stitch on my machine the hem and then these will be attached to the crib with velcro dots that will be peel and stick staggered across the top back. One velcro circle on the metal mattress frame and one on the fabric.  As they lower the mattress they can just puddle the bottom of the ruffle. 

Tomorrow a test run on the bed. Come back to see.

28 degrees to 88

Sunday in Utah it was 28 degrees when we left.  Monday afternoon in Dallas it was 88!

So, just wait a day. It is crazy spring time in Texas.  Today only highs in the 40's. 

Lynn and I celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary at Snowbird Resort in Utah. 

We had a room with a view!  Wonderful and relaxing. 

We did ski and hot tub and well... boys will be boys.  Lynn had a snowball fight with a tree.

And as we left the snow was falling again.

When we got home to the Texas warmth, Lynley had started work on a project while we were gone.  

I bought her these chairs from Craig's list.  I painted them for her college apartment, she is changing them to gray for her new apartment.  More on these later.

And our backyard has wild violets going crazy (Thanks Betty) and this little Azalea that could, keeps blooms pretty much all year long.
