But I saw this on Pinterest and it got me thinking.
My shutters in my kitchen were bad and broken. So bad that I could not find one picture for my before shot other than the one below. Where I had already given away the window treatment and was in the process of taking everything down.
BEFORE
I made a new window treatment.
I took the shutters outside and sprayed with a matt black paint. (3 cans, 3 dollars, hollar!)
Splurged on a new chandelier from Ballard's catalog.
Rearranged some sussies.
AFTER
I sit in this part of the kitchen much more now. I think I need smaller bulbs on the chandelier, but I do like it without shades.
PS ~ Hubby loves the black shutters! He wasn't so crazy about hanging the light fixture. I think his favorite dinner is in order.

I think the best way to tell if something has been a decorating success is whether it makes me sit in that area more.... so go, you!!! I meed to get to grips with spray paint a bit more, I think. It's amazing what a difference it makes!

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I didn't answer your question. I don't remember getting it. I got so many questions when I started my Q&A, that I was a little disorganized. I didn't mean to ignore you. Good job on your DIY!

Hi Lori...

Warmest wishes,
Chari
That is amazing!!! the color really changed the atmosphere of the room!
ReplyDeleteLooks great although I see a lot of dusting in your future. Sorry but black is like that although I love the look. Good for you just going for it even though your husband had reservations. I HATE when my husband has an opinion on decor. What does he know anyway? Just write the checks and do the manual labor for me! It will look great in the end, right?

ReplyDeleteThree cans of spray paint, three dollars? Hollar! : ).. Those shutters look fabulous! And I love the gorgeous valance too, accented by the chandelier? I would be sitting in that area a lot more as well! I reallllly want to change our old, brittle blinds for shutters. Your pictures just might make my case for me! Great job! I'm pinning the pics too!

ReplyDeleteLynn
Oh, yes, those black shutters are certainly easy to love! I’m glad that you didn’t take them down, and instead, you created a new look for them. I actually love how you chose those stuffs to match your shutters and was able to turn your kitchen into a vintage haven. :-)
