A tea towel and an iron

Remember my Craig's List find and buffet remodel?
HERE

Well the first time I used it, I was not prepared for hot casseroles and scorching!  I promise I used hot pads, but they are not enough to keep the heat away from the finish on the top of the buffet. I now place very nice cork pads underneath anything hot or warm and they work perfectly.

Alas, three scorch marks.  And the worst one below is dead center on the buffet. I have waited and waited and finally got up the courage to take a hot iron to the mess.
So of course, I looked at youtube videos and gave it a try.
Use only tea towels with very little or no fabric patten to them. I used my iron on the hot steam option.  I placed down the tea towel and then placed the iron on top of the towel and gently swirled the iron around.  I was only brave enough to swirl 4 or five times and take a peek at the results.  I would then repeat and repeat until magically the scorch was gone.

Below, small marks on left hand side.
A few swirls and gone!

The right corner had this large blotch.

This was the best I could do on this side is below.  Still a faint scorch.

And my giant front and center scorch....

No more!
I will say my kitchen oak table did not clean up at all.  So there must be something about the type of finish on the wood.
But, give it a try.  I recommend checking out youtube videos first.

Girls Weekend at Round Top, Texas Antique Week

Sisters, daughters and friend time! Yes it was muddy from a Friday rain deluge. But. we didn't care, not one bit.

You know your dog wants one of these doggie campers!

We came, we conquered, we cluttered.

So much eye candy.  It was hard to leave, but we did bring home goodies.  I really don't buy much anymore, it is more about the sun, fun, friends and family time.

Magnolia and The Findery, Waco, Texas

The start to our girls trip to Round Top Antique Week had us driving smack dab in the middle of Waco.  So of course,  we exited I35 and took two turns and we were at the Silo's.  If you are a Fixer Upper fan you know exactly what I am talking about.  We arrived four minutes to 9AM at Magnolia.  We saw a small line in the rain with umbrellas and ponchos. But, by the time we parked and ran through drizzling rain the doors had opened to Magnolia and we walked right in.

I found what I came looking for... one of those Magnolia hand thrown flower pots.
Very nice touch Chip and Joanna, having your employees pass out rain ponchos if needed.
The drizzle did not put a damper on the beginning of our trip.  The rain may have made my curls  and my sister's curls expand about two more inches though! My daughter rounded out our party of three.

No one playing or eating at food trucks in the cold dreary morning either.

Right down the street we headed to the Findery.  I have been following them on Instagram and was ready to take a look.  I do, declare.. how cute are these placemats and coasters.

And see how close this two story shop is to the Silo's a short walk or ride down the street.
Next up .... Round Top, Texas

Lauria Anna's and first Monday

A long holiday weekend + all my kids out of town = a trip for me to Canton

And of course Laurie Anna's Vintage Home is always my first stop on Highway 19!
I will let you know my favorite thing from each photograph and if you make it to the end I will let you know my two disappointments.  Neither has anything to do with Laurie Anna's of course.

Favorites!
Headboard ~ footboard.  Love the light wood and super tall headboard!  This is what greets you as you walk in the front door.

Look closely.... the cake plates with the colored base!

Absoulutely the round mirrors in whites and aqua!

Bird cage please, I just do not want a messy bird.  I could easily fill one with loverlies from Laurie Anna's collection.

Holy Toledo! The staircase to nowhere!  I don't think it is for sale though.  But still my favorite part of this showcase area.  Holy Toledo... I crack myself up sometimes.

Tiny glass covered butter dishes.  Can you find one?

Best thing about this shot, the anticipation of more and more rooms around the corner! Oh, and I always love a 50% of sign too.

The three heads.

The linen napkin hanging from the table, no... the lanterns... no the aqua bottles.

Yep, it was a good day!  So, what came home with me?

This ruler planter.  Half price tag, YAY!

This lacy tank and this large rectangular serving platter.  Which a very nice sales person emptied the items on top of the platter, right onto the display counter, so that I could buy it.  I got the last one, sorry.  But, believe me they have tons that are similiar!

Now for my two things that I did not like on my trip to Canton.  The antique mall next door was charging for parking. I don't remember them doing that.  So, I turned around and went across the street to another store that I like.

They have expanded and you would think great, even more great stuff.  Nope, I was a bit sad.  Just seemed like lots of empty space and not as many cute display areas.  But, I did find a great deals for ribbon on clearance.  So, it was worth the stop.

I also found this small domed server.  The tomatoe from our farmer's market shows you just how small it is.

Next First Monday Trade Days... Laurie Anna's will be waiting.
July 31 - August 3rd.
Go to their site here. You can shop online too.

What came home with me from Round Top

Just a few things came home with me this year.  But, the best are the laughs and fun I had with my daughters, sisters and friends!  Memories you cannot put a price on ever!

Two items not pictured.  The clock necklace that was a peer pressure buy.  Two other ladies were buying one, so I caved.  And I hand painted china piece that I am using at work for pens and pencils.

This little lamb screamed spring and Easter.  It is an artist print on a block of gorgeous wood.

I fell in love with this artist, Mary Gregory.  I am so glad she had some affordable objects.  Since, I need to save up for an original.

Silver sugar tongs.  Half price sale, so I couldn't resist.  It is a 1920's pattern.

An iron bunny found it's way into my bag.

The Louisiana girl in me was drawn to the magnolia gravy boat.

I have passed up dough bowls for years. This one came home with me this time.

This silver spoon bracelet, reminds me of the popular cuff bracelets.  And I got to meet the designer.

Before and ...

after! This is the only thing I had on my list to find at Round Top.  Some kind of iron piece to fill this empty space between the den and living room.  It is from Europe and from the top of an old gate.  Or at least that was the "story".

Girls just want to have fun.  We called him fake Juan Pablo.  (Sorry, Bachelor show reference)

Good-bye Round Top, Texas.  See you in the fall.
