Comfortable Traditional

I always wondered what is my design style for my house.  I know what it is not.  Modern, shabby chic, french country.. although I do appreciate all of those when done right.

I thought modern traditional, southern traditional and then yesterday on a blog I stumbled across I was party surfing and a decorator called her style comfortable traditional.  Hey, that might be me.  I have had people say our home is so comfortable and I have a lot of antique pieces.  See what you think.

See above picture ~ Front door entrance brick, plantings ...traditional
Unusual wood table ... comfortable

Bar set out to welcome guests.... traditional
first, second, third stenciled on drawers... comfortable

traditional china cups and saucers sitting comfortably tossed on each other

traditional kitchen cabinets so Oohlala painted comfortably

comfortable dinning area in kitchen with traditional ladderback chairs

Monet framed prints next to comfortable apron collection in the laundry room

traditional silk floral arrangements next to the funky black and white Italian restaurant scene

comfortable corner, mixed with the anitque family table

Ooops, no explanation, blogland made me do it.

traditional silverplate tossed out on a tray comfortably

Antique pitchers and creamers on a brand new made to look old chippy little stool

Fresh flowers on logs next to fine china and crystal, makes my heart warm

Twas the night before Christmas plate, mixed with Fitz and Floyd pieces tradition all the way

Funky new cottage ceilings, with traditional crown molding

Traditional mirrors, with fun bells and ribbon

Flowers always make me feel comfortable and even better in little traditional creamer atop a piece of battenburg lace cloth.

A pond, what backyard is complete without one

So stop by anytime for a comfy cup of coffee in this oh so traditinal cup - not mug
Ladies dainty lips need the slim edge of a cup

What do you think? Comfortable Traditional, I like it!

Some of these shots I've missed seeing so I was glad you've put them up again.

I had to laugh at your comment "blogland made me do it" LOL I can SOOOO relate. I don't think I've ever done so much spray paint or rearranging before I discovered blogging. ;-)

  14. Lori, I like your style, and I fell in love with something in the first picture. That little table. Oh, how cute! Is that wood or is that faux wood? I adore it. Lots of other things I love, too, but that caught my eye first.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

It's not stuffy traditional and it's not cutesy. It's comfortable and cozy. I LOVE the ceiling you installed! I'll have to investigate some older posts of yours.

  22. I'm not sure what my style is. I love French Country. But I wanted to show a little of my own culture too. And I am not too into pastels or florals. But I sure dislike clutter. So I am trying my best to get rid of that in my home.

  26. What a beautiful home. Would you mind answering a quick question. How do you get that scripted writing on your blog? I use Live WRiter for posting, but the fonts are limited. Peggy from PA bfdgirl@yahoo.com

  27. Your home is truly lovely, and it definitely appears Comfortable Traditional. I'm not much on the whole label thing, but I took one of the "Find Your Style" quizzes in a decor book that I have. The "experts" say my style is Comfortable Formal. Personally, I think our home is Comfortable Eclectic & that suits me just fine! Thanks for a wonderful tour.
