Bishop Arts Market, Yes, an afternoon in Oak Cliff!

My sister Joanie called on a Friday and asked "do you want to go to an Art Festival in the Bishop Arts District?"  I said yes, I had just read about the area in blogland and I was ready.
Yes, Joanie dusted off her market shopping hat and we ventured to Yikes, I mean yes Oak Cliff.  When I first moved to the Dallas area in 1991, this was definitely an off limits area to be found in.  But not anymore.  Thanks Shelbi for the inspiration to tempt me out to the area.

There was an arts festival going on all weekend.  We had a few Saturday afternoon hours with nothing planned so we headed downtown.  The dreaded traffic from nowhere held us up for about thirty minutes of our shopping time.  But we finally made it there and started just walking around.
Cloudy but perfect temperature.

Shy Violets hand made vintage looking adorable clothes.

Great old buildings.

We wondered in and out of shops and tents.  It was fun, but too short.  A couple weeks ago a friend of mine called to say she was on a girl's weekend in an Oak Cliff hotel.  I screamed are you nuts get out of there quick.  She laughed and said they had the best view she has ever seen of downtown Dallas.
OK Diane, I have changed my mind.

  1. That looks like fun. They have art festivals here on main street in downtown Buford. I have only been once. A lot of the art is not my taste. I get a kick out of looking at all of it though.

  2. Oh my gosh! I'm so glad you posted this! What is the blog that had the previous info about the area? I read about the area in an issue of Texas Highways recently, and all the locations you pictured were in the review, and I knew I had to go-I'm a permanant, and dedicated Dallas tourist. It's on a list of about ten things I was planning on visiting in the next few months. I was asking the other gals at work about it JUST THIS week, but nobody knew anything. I was planning on going for a great view of the skyline (which I've been seeking with my camera), but it was good to read reviews from an eye witness :O).

  4. Lori, I grew up in Dallas and you are right, used to be that you kind of avoided that area. I guess that's not true any more! I'm glad. :) Looks like y'all had a great time.
