Seven Course family dinner

A few days before New Year's we had a bunch of family in town.  I decided to host a seven course dinner at our house.  We divided up the courses and everybody got to pitch in and serve their course and then rest and enjoy all the other courses.  We had a table for 13.

Each course was served with a wine pairing.  Champagne with appetizers, Port/coffee with dessert.

It took about three hours from start to finish.  So, this might be kind of hard to pull off with really young children.  Our youngest was 21.  The 11 weeks old grands slept through it all.  Yay!

Course One: Appetizer  ~ Under thirty year olds, Lynley, Sydney and Emma
Spinach artichoke dip and baked brie in filo dough and filled with raspberry jam.

Course Two: Salad ~ Mel and Sean
Cranberry, nut, mixed greens salad
Nut, sliced egg, mixed greens salad

Course Three: Soup ~ Jill and Chris
Turkey and Andouille sausage Gumbo

Course Four: Sorbet ~ host house - Lori and Lynn

Course Five: Seafood ~ Joanie and Marty
Cerviche - Shrimp, avocado, cucumber and lots of other yummy stuff.

Course Six: Meat ~ Lori and Lynn
Italian Torte  - Ham, Salami, provolone, mushroom, spinach
side of asparagus
Recipe here ~ from Taste of Home

Course Seven:  Dessert ~ Ann Marie and Michael
Chocolate, caramel poke cake with whipped cream and candy topping.

And clean up only took three dishwasher loads and some hand washing of crystal.
Thanks everyone for helping!

  2. Wow Lori, what an amazing dinner! I love how you had different people be in charge of each course, so no one had to do all the work. I would LOVE to try that sometime.
Wishing you a very happy new year!
