Annie Sloane whitewashed brick

Do not be afraid of painting brick.  I repeat... DO NOT be afraid of paint. I have thought about this project for about three years and finally took the plunge.

Behold my painted brick fireplace and white mantel.

I searched the below hashtags on Instagram and found my below favorites.  They are both German Smear techniques.  I was way to afraid too try that process.

I used a 50/50 solution of paint and water.
Before
The outside brick on our house is the same color. I think, I want the german smear technique on the outside of the house. A girl can dream, right?

I removed everything, taped and cleaned the brick. I just wiped down the brick with a wet rag.
Below you can see my "test" corner.  That first brush stroke was so scary.
TIP:  Old socks worked great to remove any drips or excess paint.
I painted the grout lines too.  From a grey to the whitewash.
I sent the below picture to my decorators. (aka: daughters) and they all agreed to get rid of the all the solid white bricks.  Yikes, was I too late, the first bricks were painted over an hour and half ago.  Not to worry, a rub down with a wet sock worked wonders.

I AM IN LOVE WITH THE FINISHED PROJECT!!!

 Before dark, old looking

 The finished fireplace project.  Swoon.
 Bright, light and updated.
The grands saw this picture and said, "Lala, you made a bed for the skeleton!"

Project details
Annie Sloane - Old White paint $39
Had my brush
Had old socks
Had paper and tape

Total renovation $39.00

Like I said do NOT be afraid of painting brick.

Jingle Bell Toss

Here is a fun idea for all ages.
A jingle bell toss game.  You can play on the floor or on a countertop.

I needed a family gift idea.  Every year I give each of my siblings and my hubbies brother a family gift box.  There has been Peppermint, movie, Italian, chocolate, Tex-Mex themes.
This year Pinterest provided the inspiration for this game.
Amazon provided the supplies.

Supplies needed
Glue gun
(tip) put extra glue on the underneath cups (feet)

All below supplies purchased through Amazon
Large jingle bells (ten per game set)
Art Canvas (11x14)
Plastic tiny cups (shot glass size)
Washi tape (optional decoration)

Bells (50) 7.99
Economy white value pack art canvas
(7) 18.61
Mini red party cups (120) 12.68

I had the hot glue gun and washi tape already

Ton of fun ~ priceless
But, for reference each set was about 7.50

Looks like fall and feels like Texas

It is 87 degrees today in Coppell, Texas ~ don't you just love fall!
Even though that still is a bit warm, the calendar says October, so let's pull out the pumpkins!

I found inspiration here... Less than Perfect Life of Bliss - Her Fall Home Tour had the below display.  She also is where I got my inspiration for my Craig's List buffet makeover. Here
Miss Julie is amazing, check her out at ...Life of Bliss.
Julie used that huge wooden board as a backdrop for her wreath.  I used my huge charcuterie board for the backdrop for my cotton wreath.

Google eye table runner - Target
Velvet pumpkins - Market Street
Cotton wreath - Hobby Lobby
Charcuterie board - Round Top, TX

My daughters say less is best, I say in this case, more is much better!  See what I started with below and thought I was done, then I just kept adding more!  Yep, much better!

Christmas candy clearance

Remind me next year to buy more of these when I see them on sale after Christmas.
You can divide them for two upcoming holidays, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day.

Cheese dip hostess gift

Do you want and easy inexpensive hostess gift?  Something the hostess can enjoy days after a party.

Rotel Velveeta Cheese dip.

I used two of the new mini blocks of Velveeta.  Probably three blocks would work better for one recipe.  Added one can of Rotel diced tomatoes and green chillies and wrapped them in cellophane tied with string.

I am using mine in family gift boxes for Christmas.  This year 's gift box is a Tex-Mex theme and these will fit in perfectly.  So for less than about two dollars you have a fun little sussie to hand someone.

A golden nursery for MissAllyAnn

Seems just like a few short months ago MissHadley and MissLayton were new to our lives and about three months old.
Now, as two year olds,  they get to welcome little sister in a few weeks.
MissAllyAnn's  Mom, with a little help from her sisters and I, have put together the most girly, femine nursery around.  Ivory, gold and pink highlight every inch of space.
Ann Marie and I found the pouf for her feet today at TJ Maxx.  I found the gold pillows from Pick Your Plum.  The You are my sunshine heritage blanket I found at a boutique in Flower Mound.  Southern Charm Cottage. The Jenny Lind baby bed was from my attic.  Yep, I kept it from when my girls were little.

She will leave a little sparkle wherever she goes.

Ann Marie and I found the most gorgeous fabric at Cutting Corners.  I made the curtain and dust ruffle for the crib.

Crib sheets her Mom found on Etsy.

Now all we need is little MissAllyAnn!

Secret shared

Ladies listen up! I am sharing with you a lotion and sleep help tip.  I have been searching for a lavendar scented lotion to use at night, ever since my favorite ran out and is not made anymore.
After a sister shopping day in McKinney Square in Texas, I found one!
Lavender Mint by Niven Morgan.  To my surprise the product is made in Dallas too.  His website says he has some Louisiana connections too!  Gotta love both of those things.  I use it right before my head hits the pillow for the night.  I am a bit addicted.  Packaging gorgous too, such a treat.
And who doesn't want metal antlers to hold necklaces?  Found this little gem at Frisco Mercantile.

See here  for more on the bathroom remodel.
