Mon Dieu...
As Lindsay states in his editorial... Southern Living has been known for their obsession with cakes stands. While on a conference call a colleague from his parent company (in New York, I say that explains a lot) suggested they might be using them too much in the pages of Southern Living. I love this part... Lyndsay says the room at HQ fell silent and they all exchanged puzzled, hurt looks.
The editorial also ends that paragraph by saying that if you go through the time and trouble of making a special dessert from scratch, any Southern host knows it sure enough deserves to be put on a pedestal.
Good job Lindasy, see the magazine cover with his editorial, November 2012.
Yes Sir, I agree one hundred percent. Which had me thinking how I use my "pedestals" around the house.
For... party time...
I crafted this one for myself and then served my mother-in-laws pecan tassies that I made...
My daughter (good Southern raising) has a triple iron cake holder...
Not just for cakes anymore...
Match holder...
Great great grand-mother's ironstone pitcher holder...
holiday decorations made fun...
jewelry holder...
topped with a Limoges saucer resting on a silver pedestal of course...
coffee station supplies...
Thank-you Mr. M. Lindsay Bierman... and keep those gorgeous cake stand ideas coming pretty please.
Lori, I read his editorial as well; and I had to laugh! What the heck else do you use to present a beautiful cake?! And as you have shown, there are many more uses for them. I turned one into a cloche for fall!
ReplyDeleteI read this too and thought what a joke! Any proper Southerner knows that a cake stand is of utmost importance to display those items that need special attention! Oh say, like a handed down Jam Cake recipe! Or a pumpkin... the list goes on and on. This is why it is SOUTHERN LIVING and not YANKEE LIVING!!!!! HA!!!!!! I crack myself up!
ReplyDeleteWell I agree too - of course! And I'll take a slice of that pumpkin layer cake please!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a chance to read the article yet but will pick it up off of my counter to do so soon. I agree with you...it must be something about us southern gals...I have a lot of these in my house too!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love all the uses of cake stands here. I am back to blogging and it is fun to get around to visiting those blogs that I have missed. Blessings- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteEverything always looks so cute popped up! I have 4. I obviously need more :)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks better on a cake stand! Love the skulls. :@
ReplyDeleteI hope Southern Living sees this post. I've been concerned since NY took over!
ReplyDeleteI put YOU on a pedestal.
