Happy Birthday New Year!

That is what December 31st is for me, I'm a New Year's Eve baby!  Yep, Mom and Dad got that tax deduction in just under the wire that year.  (Really she took castor oil to induce labor) worked so well her best friend did the same thing and they shared a hospital room on New Year's Eve!

New Year table fun!

Had to change Christmas out and brought New Year fun into the dining room!

I used the disco ball place card holders in the martini glasses. Homegoods clearance last year.

The silver and gold funky swirly dotted picks came from Pier One.  They were my tree topper this year too.

I found this table runner at our Dillard's clearance store, fun black dots.

Boring to better doorknobs

Have you priced doorknobs lately?  Have you counted how many are in your house?

We had "Las Vegas" gold doorknobs in our house when we moved in 9 years ago... I replaced the front half of the house with pewter.  Our bedroom is off by itself and I never got around to that part of the house.  So yesterday, I was stuck at home.  Hubbies car in the shop, so he took mine.

Had all the supplies and now had the time..

Remove knobs

Fresh coat of paint on doors, Sherwin Williams, Satin Nomadic Desert

I went with a grey primer and oil rubbed bronze finish

Yep, sprayed the tiny screws too!

Very strong odor from the oil rubbed bronze, best to do this part outside or at least in your garage.

Tadaa!!!  Loving this easy fast project, maybe took two hours total.  You are supposed to wait overnight to let the oil rubbed bronze dry, but I couldn't wait. Tip:  if you do scratch paint while re-attaching, a black sharpie marker covers it right up.  Yes, I speak from experience.  

Three more doors to go!  Don't you love it?  Best part hubbie was amazed!

I think I spent $12.00 and will be able to do 5 sets of knobs and my sink cabinet knobs as well.

UPDATE - 2013
Still wearing well.  The most used door knob leading into the bedroom has chipped.  Most scratches you can cover with a sharpie marker.

2010 in review

One of the reasons I started this blog was because my Christmas Book had 25 years to record each year.  We started it the year the twins were born and they turned 26 this year.  The book is full and I don't know where to find another one.  So I began to blog.

Happenings for the year..

Ann Marie and Micheal have been married for three years and are living in McKinney, TX.  She is teaching kindergarten in Frisco ISD and Michael is working for a gas company in Dallas.  Melissa and Sean have been married for two years and live in Richardson, TX.  Melissa teaches 3rd grade in Richardson.  This fall she moved to 2nd grade.  Sean is still working for Stone Advisors and has recently been accepted into the SMU School of Business Masters program.  Lynley graduated from Oklahoma University in May.  She is home in Coppell, working part time for Todd Events in downtown Dallas.  She has a PR/Communications major and a minor in Interior Design.  She is dating Casey and he is in his senior year at OU.  Lynn and I celebrated 29 years of marriage.  I have been with American Airlines for 18 years now and Lynn has taken a new marketing position at Texans Credit Union. Our saddest part of the year, we said good-bye to Cotton, she was a good and faithful friend for 15 years. We are so blessed to have all of our family living so close to us.  I have friends with children living far away and I know that has to be hard for everyone.

Do you wait until Christmas to put Jesus in the manger?  I have to have him there right away, just can't wait.  My daughter taught me something this year, I always considered the barn structure the manger, nope... Mary laid Jesus in the manger.  A manger is a box to hold the food for the animals in the barn.  That makes it even more amazing that Jesus was placed in this lowly place for his first bed.

Here are the five Holy Families and their visitors that I have around the house and outside.

My sister bought the barn and my Mother-in-law, Nicki gave me the figurines years ago.  Beautiful colors in this one.

These are scattered on the center of the dining room table this year, I purchased these myself as my first "grown up" looking set.

Which is your favorite? They are all special.
Hubbie and I have been counting religious yard decorations.  They do not out number generic.  It is about one in six yards that you see anything Jesus related.

First a Dream

Wreath, silver, shine and magnificent!

I wanted to go all out on the wreath above the mantel.  Silver and shine is the theme.

Lynley helped and brought home the birds and nests of glass eggs.  She created the whole thing while we were at a Christmas party and it was hung on the wall by the time we got home.

We ended up buying two more boxes of silver large balls before she began.

We found the most perfect 34 inch empty wreath at Michaels, Lynley felt it wasn't full enough so she added a nine foot garland to the center before she began to glue each and every ornament.  Then finally the glitter garland added just the right finish.

I am so loving it!  Daytime and night time, both gorgeous.
