How to put on an easy 90th birthday party

Email everyone to come, clean house and put out your favorite pretties.  Make two cakes and purchase one, plus cookies.  Buy ice cream and forget to put it out.  But, don't forget sweet tea and coffee! No afternoon party in the south is complete without tea and coffee.

Equals one happy 90 year old. Happy "early" birthday Nickie!

Nickie's best friend from their church nursery days was in attendance.  She came in from Fredericksburg, TX.  She won the oldest in attendance at 91.
Thanks to my daughter MissAnn Marie for helping with all the printed signs.

I tried to use her favorite color pink as much as possible.

My daughter filled the mantel with a stained glass window from the church Nickie was raised and attended all her life, Calvary Baptist Church, Alexandria, LA.  Then MissLynley layered photo's of Nickie through the years.   The afternoon was filled with laughter and stories and love.

No one missed the ice cream either! More to come..the actual party fun and guests!

Party prep

Party prep for a 90th birthday party.  My mother-in-law will be turning 90 in May, but won't be here in Texas, but in Georgia with her other son's family.  So, we put together a little pre party.

My Mom was in town also and she and Nickie helped chop.  Nickie chopped the pecans for two cakes and my Mom chopped the sweet potatoes, yes, for a cake too.
These two pairs of hands have seen a lot of chopping and baking over the years.

Three cakes for one party.  Cheesecake, Praline Pecan and Sweet Potato Cinnamon Roll cake.

More on all the fancy and fun from the party later.

Recipes now though... below.  I found both cake recipes on Pinterest and can be found on my board, Sugar and everything nice.  Thank you Cheesecake Factory for making my life easier with the yummy cheesecake, all I had to do was purchase the cake put out a few toppings.

Take a look at comments on this blog, may help with preperations

Changes to the above recipe, my family prefers butter cake mix instead of the Praline cake mix (which can be hard to find anyway)
Butter Sauce can be served on the side.  But, for the party and mess factor, I poured the sauce over the entire cake.

Emma Bridgewater knockoff

I love Emma Bridgewater's creations.  She is an potter from England and I have wanted at least one of her pieces for a long time.

You know my blog title comes from a poem about Daffodils.  So, when I spied this knock off bowl at Tuesday Morning... it did come home with me.

Here is her site where you can find her daffodil pattern, plus all her great stuff.  Since, I feel a bit guilty to buy a knock off, just maybe some of you can afford the international shipping.

Oh and I might as well show you my current cocktail napkins that made the cut this week!

Love my dainty little bowl, makes me smile each time I catch a glance of it on my counter top.
 Enjoy your weekend!

Dallas Blooms!

Warning!  Gorgeous photo overload
On this past Good Friday, we headed to the Dallas Arboretum for Dallas Blooms.  Along with what seemed like a million other Dallas area residents and visiting family members!

The gardens planted 500,000 bulbs!  So, let's just plant 50 in one square foot.  OK with me.
There is a Texas Star to great us and the whole garden has a Texas theme going on.

The gangs all here, let's go....

We shared the day, all three girls, four grands and Nickie, Great-Grand-mother.

There is nothing sweeter than a little girl in a smocked frock.  Or one with her Floppy!

Chasing squirels on lush green grass is so much fun.

I missed the invite in the mail for this private party.
Oh well, maybe lunch here instead!

We tried to get our Grands in the wagon, no go.

 It was a precious day.
